At the Atkinson Professional Accounting Association (APAA), we take the privacy of student and council members very seriously, and hold information security at the utmost importance. The APAA privacy policy applies to all information and content collected and offered by APAA. Upholding the Privacy Policy is the duty of not only council members, but also student members who access and use the information provided by APAA.
Any information collected by APAA from student member applications, surveys, forms, etc. are used exclusively for their respective purposes. APAA does not sell, market, or provide confidential student information of any form to outside parties. The APAA website has recently been further restricted for purposes of privacy. The majority of the information on the APAA website can now only be viewed by authorized council and student members, York University faculty and staff, and employers.
Information posted on the APAA Facebook group is viewable by the public as are questions submitted by student members on the group’s wall. Information and pictures provided for the APAA’s FaceValueBook will be provided to perspective employers and will not be limited to persons inside of APAA.
Although providing information to APAA is voluntary, certain information is required to process applications, as noted on the application form. Should students have additional security concerns or questions regarding their personal information, they may contact APAA for alternative methods of providing the information. Student memberships are now processed online through a secure form under 256 bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. In the event that hard bound forms are used, those forms will be secured and then terminated once they are no longer needed.
APAA retains the right to retain collected information for as long as it feels it is necessary to serve the original purpose of that information. While retaining that information, APAA takes responsibility for its distribution, security, and confidentiality at all times. Student and council members are given access to their personal information in the possession of APAA at their request.
APAA is determined to collecting and reporting accurate and relevant student information. Students and council members may update their personal information as long as doing so will serve a purpose relevant to the original use of the collected information.
All information provided to APAA is used for the exclusive purpose(s) set out in the relevant documentation. Only selected APAA council members have access to student members’ information for the purposes of administering and using that information for their intended purposes. APAA constantly monitors and updates its security procedures to ensure a high level of trust and confidentiality pertaining to member-provided information.
All information on the APAA website is the property of APAA, unless otherwise stated. APAA reserves the right to cancel an individual’s APAA membership indefinitely for any infractions of APAA’s privacy policies. The above stated policies apply to APAA council members and student members alike.
